Overview
IAGES is one of the largest academically vibrant minimal access surgical associations in India since year 1993. The association regularly conducts the following basic and advanced laparoscopic and endoscopic fellowship courses for the benefit of surgical fraternity.
FIAGES: (Fellowship in Essential Laparoscopic Surgery) - This is one of the most successful entry level program for young surgeons who are members of IAGES, which provides a thorough teaching and training of Laparoscopic Surgeries. The candidates are examined by senior colleagues in the field.
FALS: (Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery) - This course is to train senior or advanced laparoscopic surgeons and to keep the members abreast with recent advancements in laparoscopic procedures. FALS courses are organized in various sub- specialties such as hernia, bariatric surgery, upper gastrointestinal surgery, colorectal surgery and oncology.
EFIAGES: (Fellowship in Essential Endoscopy) - This course is to train surgeons in the field of basic GI endoscopy. This course is for surgeons willing to start their practice by learning the art and science of endoscopy.
FAGIE: (Fellowship in Advanced Gastrointestinal Endoscopy) - This is an advanced courses in GI endoscopy. These courses are for surgeons willing to master GI endoscopy both diagnostic and therapeutic including endoscopic surgeries for complications.
Successful candidates will be felicitated in the annual conference of IAGES.
IAGES is pleased to introduce the online fellowship and also launch non- fellowship certificate courses in all the above categories starting from 15th July 2020 onwards.
With the help of sophisticated online platform, these courses are offered in the form of interactive video lectures, virtual live demonstration of laparoscopic surgery/endoscopic cases and virtual simulations of various procedures.
IAGES is proud to present this new and exciting learning experience for all enthusiastic and ambitious trainees through these online courses.
Course Structure
IAGES offers online courses in 2 broad categories namely FELLOWSHIP and NON-FELLOWSHIP.
The FELLOWSHIP courses are offered for all IAGES life members and its collaborating overseas associations who fulfil the criteria for taking these courses. A variety of specialized courses with extensive teaching and training modules make IAGES fellowships, one of the most sought-after minimal access training courses.
The NON-FELLOWSHIP courses are open for any surgeon and surgical postgraduate both members and non-members from across the globe who is interested in certifying themselves through various intensive minimal access surgical courses.
Both these courses are further divided into EXAMINATION and NON-EXAMINATION groups, the guidelines of which are explained elsewhere in the manual

Courses & Eligibility
1. Fellowship Courses
One of the most extensive and popular fellowship program which covers all aspects of minimal access surgery and GI endoscopy.
Eligibility Criteria for Basic and Advanced Fellowship Courses:
- Life members of IAGES
- Surgeons who are eligible to become IAGES members
(Candidate should have completed MCI recognized MS Gen surgery or DNB surgery or higher degree) - Non-members can visit www.iages.in to enrol themselves as IAGES member.
- Members of collaborating associations are also eligible. The members are expected to get their application endorsed by the respective collaborating association and submit online prior to joining the course.
FIAGES (Fellowship of Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endosurgeons)+
- Suitable for those with a minimum of 2 years experience in laparoscopic surgery (including experience in laparoscopy as Postgraduate/Resident).
- Fellow should have an experience certificate from the Head of the Department (HOD), employer or self (if owning a hospital).
- Fellow should submit an online log book (refer Appendix). A total of 25 cases including all assisted/ operated laparoscopic surgeries have to be included.
FALS (Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery)+
- All surgeons with a minimum of five years experience in the CHOSEN specialty of laparoscopic surgery after Post graduation are eligible.
- Fellow should have an experience certificate from the Head of the Department (HOD), employer or self (if owning a hospital)
- Fellow should submit an online log book (refer Appendix). A total of 25 cases including all assisted/ operated laparoscopic surgeries in the CHOSEN speciality have to be included.
EFIAGES (Endoscopic fellowship of Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endosurgeons)+
- Suitable for those with a minimum of 2 years experience in endoscopy (including experience as a Resident).
- Fellow should have an experience certificate from HOD, employer or self (if owning a hospital).
- Fellow should submit an online log book (refer Appendix). A total of 25 cases including all assisted/ performed endoscopic procedures (both diagnostic and therapeutic) have to be included.
FIAGES (Fellowship of Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endosurgeons)+
- Suitable for candidates working as faculty in teaching institution and all surgeons with more than 10 year experience in doing laparoscopy.
- Fellow should have an experience certificate from the Head of the Department (HOD) or a senior colleague.
- Fellow should submit an online log book (refer Appendix). A total of 100 laparoscopy surgeries should have been performed independently In the last 10 years
FALS (Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery)+
- Surgeons who have been doing laparoscopic surgery in the CHOSEN speciality for 10 or more years are eligible.
- Fellow should have an experience certificate from the Head of the Department (HOD) or a senior colleague.
- Fellow should submit an online log book (refer Appendix). A total of 100 laparoscopy surgeries should have been performed independently in the last 10 years in the CHOSEN speciality.
EFIAGES (Endoscopic fellowship of Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endosurgeons)+
- Suitable for candidates working as faculty in teaching institution and all surgeons with more than 10 year experience in endoscopy including therapeutic interventions
- Fellow should have an experience certificate from the Head of the Department (HOD) or a senior colleague.
- Fellow should submit an online log book (refer Appendix). A total of 100 endoscopic procedures ( diagnostic and therapeutic) should have been performed independently In the last 10 years
2. Non-Fellowship Continued Surgical Education (CSE) Programs
One of the most extensive and popular program which covers all aspects of minimal access surgery and GI endoscopy.
Eligibility for Basic and Advanced CSE Programs
- Members, Non-members, Surgical postgraduates, and interested Surgeons across the globe can apply for courses under this category.
- Candidates will be awarded an online "Certificate of Attendance" by IAGES upon successful completion of the online programs
- Interested persons can register as a CSE candidate for online FIAGES/FALS/EFIAGES programs.

* Course fee is inclusive of 18% GST and 2.5% Processing fee.
* On short listing the names if the applicant chooses not to take up the course, he shall inform not later than 10 days from the date of short list announcement. 10% of the course fee will be deducted if the candidate withdraws before the start of the course.
* Course fees either in part or in full shall not be refunded if the applicant fails to complete the course or attend the convocation.
* The course fee is exclusive of the registration fee for the IAGES annual conference and convocation. Eligible Candidates will have to register for IAGES 2022 National Congress for the convocation. Onsite Examination can be at any place where next onsite course is happening during the year.

IAGES is pleased to announce the launching of online fellowship courses. EFIAGES (Fellowship in basic flexible endoscopic surgery) FIAGES (Fellowship in laparoscopic surgery) and FALS (Fellowship of Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery) courses are available.
Log on to the online platform to register for the courses. It is available under fellowship and non-fellowship categories.
- Fellowship category is open only for surgeons with MCI recognized MS/DNB degree and eligible for becoming IAGES members.
- Members of collaborating associations who have signed MOU with IAGES are also eligible for fellowship category application. They are expected to get their application endorsed by the respective collaborating association prior to joining the online course.
- All non-members, international surgeons and surgical postgraduates can take up the online course and benefit only under the non-fellowship category.
Once you register, you will be given login ID and password to enter your online reading room a begin the course. It has validity for 1 month. You are expected to take up all the online lectures and demonstration modules within this /me frame.

Online FIAGES/EFIAGES can be taken before you become a member of IAGES. But if you have taken the online course in fellowship category, you should soon become a member of IAGES before applying for final assessment part of fellowship course to be held at the venue of annual conference.
Members of collaborating associations who have signed MOU with IAGES are also eligible for fellowship category. They are expected to get their application endorsed by the respective collaborating association prior to joining the online course.
Log on to www.iages.in and join IAGES thorough online payment portal. Have copy of MBBS, MS/DNB degree and address proof and passport photo to upload them in PDF format online.
Once you have completed online module within 1 month and received the IAGES membership, you apply for the annual conference and convocation under fellowship category through IAGES 2022 online registration portal.
- Please submit the logbook for the respective courses within a month of completion of the course to the respective board conveners. You will then become eligible for assessment and award of fellowship during the forthcoming annual conference and convocation.
Yes. Absolutely.
- Members of collaborating associations who have signed MOU with IAGES are also eligible for fellowship category application. They are expected to get their application endorsed by the respective collaborating association prior to joining the online course.
- Other overseas surgeons and postgraduates are only eligible to take up online courses under the non-fellowship category only.
- Yes. You can take up the online courses of CIAGES and ECIAGES. Certificate is given along with CME points and you can attend the IAGES 2021 annual national conference.
- You are not eligible to receive fellowship prior to your surgical qualification.
- Yes. It is possible.
- Many candidates do take 2 or more courses simultaneously.
- However, please ensure you meet the eligibility criteria for the courses you are applying for.
- In addition, you should attend and qualify the practical and assessments for these courses on the pre-conference day (11th February 2021). The slots will be allocated appropriately.
EFIAGES/FIAGES/FALS (online course) is valid for 12 months. Under exceptional circumstances it might be possible to take the final assessment during IAGES 2022, but you are required to contact the respective board conveners for the same.
IAGES plans to bring the online advanced laparoscopic courses (FALS) in 5 different sub- special/es this year namely Upper GI, Colorectal, Oncology, Hernia, Robotic Surgery and Bariatric Surgery.
Payment of registration fees should be done through online payment gateway.
Fellowship Category:
- FIAGES/EFIAGES: Rs. 15,000 each (Inclusive of GST)
- FALS: Rs. 20,000 (Inclusive of GST)
- Course duration: 1 month for each of the above courses
Non-Fellowship Category:
